In my book club discussion today there were two pastors, the Dean of Spiritual Life, the Assistant Dean of Students, and myself. As I listened to these amazing men and women discuss the past, present, and future of the Christian faith, I found myself pondering this concept:
-------
"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." ~1 Cor. 13:13
If we had the answers, we would not have faith. If we knew the future, we would not have hope. Of the three that we have, the only one that gives us a concrete to-do list for today is love. It is the greatest, because it fills the void that questions create and anchors the future that we cannot see.
Love should be my lifeline when uncertainty surrounds me. Love should be my guideline when tomorrow is unknown. This is the heart of Christianity to me.
--------
One pastor, my pastor, looked at me as though I had just unveiled a hidden truth to him that he hadn't yet known fully. The other pastor looked at me with excitement in his eyes and said simply, "That'll preach."
